Palliative Care
BOOK APPOINTMENTPalliative and end-of-life care help prevent a pet’s suffering by managing pain, meeting nutritional needs, and making sure the pet is comfortable at home. This is particularly beneficial if your pet has been diagnosed with a terminal disease or has a chronic condition that causes pain and discomfort.
If your pet has been diagnosed or has any of the following conditions: cognitive dysfunction/dementia, respiratory disease, urinary tract disease, mobility issues, osteoarthritis, cancer, gastrointestinal disease, or intervertebral disc disease, your pet will benefit from a palliative care consult.
We will use an integrative approach using Western Medicine and an Eastern Approach with Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) to ensure your pet’s condition is managed properly.
Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM)
Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) has been practiced in China for thousands of years. It is based on the philosophy that the body is a microcosm of the surrounding universe. The body is full of different energies that keep everything in balance and has a driving force of energy called “Qi,” which drives its every action and transformation.
The Yin-Yang theory is also prominent in TCVM. This theory describes how opposing forces of the universe play a key role in maintaining physiological function and preventing disease. The Ancient Chinese observed yearly cycles through five seasons – spring, summer, later summer, autumn, and winter, which each have a corresponding element; These are known as the five elements, which consist of wood, earth, fire, metal, and water.
In addition, there are five main organs, heart, kidney, spleen, liver, and lung, which correlate to the five elements and help explain how harmony in the body is maintained. Body imbalances lead to external signs of disease. As a TCVM practitioner, I will identify this pattern and seek ways to correct it. By correcting it, order will be restored, and the body can return to its physiological normal.
